Kitchen Sinks & Faucets Resource Guide

How to Choose the Best Kitchen Sink and Faucet

Our guide to everything about the kitchen sink—they’re not just stainless any more. We’ll also help you find the right faucet to fit your needs. ( Skip to the advice posts .)

Professionals favor the stainless-steel kitchen sink, that old standby, for its durability and functionality. We recommend a single-bowl, undermount model, the deeper the better. And spring for the thickest steel you can afford—ideally, 16-gauge with a soundproof coating to minimize noise.

We’ll show you stainless sinks in a range of sizes and configurations, including some with squared-off corners rather than rounded. Kohler’s new Stage 33-inch sink has a large, deep basin for cleaning big pots and pans, and a stepped side platform for an additional workspace.

We’ve also rounded up our favorite rectangular farmhouse sinks, including apron-front, freestanding, and undermount styles. The ones we feature are white ceramic but come in other widths and finishes as well.

On the subject of kitchen faucets, our architect experts have weighed in with their 10 favorite traditional kitchen faucets and 10 top modern ones. In other posts, we list our top brass, budget, and commercial-style kitchen faucets, as well as those with pull-down sprayers. Whatever your choice of faucet, it should perform well (avoid the cheaply made options) and always be a pleasure to use.
